Soul in Love Meets Dianne Warren Hits

17 08 2008

My attendance in this event is purely unintentional. I was on my way home after watching Cinderella. I decided to ride the MTR and passed by SM Makati. It was 7:30pm then and I saw the last leg of people signing for the Latest album of Jar-R’s latest album “Soul in Love”. I am not really a Jay-R fan but the selections in the CD are familiar to me and I am wondering how he sang these songs. So what the heck… I bought the CD and I got a free poster. Well it looked like there are a lot of fans for this artist since the show started at 5pm and until 8pm there are still people lined up to get autographs and pictures taken. Unfortunately I was one of them….

At first I though he is a snob since prior to this event, I was able to see him in Odyssey Music store at the Gateway. I was going out of the store when I bump into him. I wasn’t my fault since he is on my way out of the said establishment and he is talking to someone else in his cell. He immediately ran and maybe he is looking for someone. I also noticed some fans that were going to attempt to have his pictures taken hear DQ but because of the whole running incident… those fans were not successful. Now here I am again and meeting him one more time… this time in a more cheerful disposition.

Of course there are the usual congratulations… yada yada yada… and asked for my name… I said japok… but he spelled jopok… He said “unique name”… I said… “yah”…  I gave the CD and the poster and have my picture taken. Here is the result. After that picture was taken, he looked at it and said that “eksakto ha, galing mo kumuha ha”. I replied… “Thanks”. I then left him with a sincere congratulations and high hopes having more sales on his album. Here are some of my pics:

I listen to the album when I arrived home and it is not bad at all. I immediately transfer the songs in my IPOD and these songs have been playing all week while I was going to work or going back home. There are 18 track of pure soulful and purely good listening music. His track of Tattooed on my Mind with D’sound is simply indescribable. I suggest buying your own copy and listen to it. Promise you won’t regret it. Here are the tracks of his album:

1. One Hundred Ways
2. Just To See Her
3. You Make Me Feel Brand New
4. Love Won’t Make Me Wait
5. Always And Forever
6. After The Love Has Gone
7. No One Else Comes Close
8. Time Will Reveal
9. She’s Out Of My Life
10. Two Occasions
11. Sweet Love
12. What You Won’t Do For Love
13. What’s Going On
14. Ain’t No Sunshine
15. Neither One Of Us
16. Tender Love
17. You Are My Lady
18. Tattooed On My Mind (With D’Sound)

Here is the video of Jay-R and D’Sound for Tattooed on my Mind:

Another album you should be buying is the new album from Nina where she sings the hits of Dianne Warren. The tracks are too familiar that I can’t simply ignore it plus the album is a double CD (talk about value for your purchase). Here is the cover picture.

Nina’s version of these familiar hits simply transcended into a wonderful collection of songs we all came to love. Her renditions give a new sound to hits like because you love me, I turn to you, how do I live, unbreak my heart and many more… plus you can also sing ala Nina by playing the disk 2 where all of the songs are in minus one. Here are the tracks to here anticipated album:

1. I Don’t Want To Miss A Thing

2. I Turn To You

3. Love Will Lead You Back

4. Because You Loved Me

5. Have You Ever

6. Un-Break My Heart

7. There You’ll Be

8. I’ll Never Get Over You (Getting Over Me)

9. Blue Eyes Blue

10. How Can We Be Lovers?

11. When I See You Smile

12. Saving Forever For You

13. How Do I Live

14. I Could Not Ask For More

15. I Don’t Want To Be Your Friend

Here is her album launch in ASAP:

All in all I’m lucky to have listened or meet with these artists since they remind me of what are great and sad things about Filipino talents. The sad part is that while pinoy bands are the in thing… single artist are struggling to have great hits that they resort to just reviving familiar songs. Not that I’m totally against it but can’t they sing new songs that would call their own?  Well this is just a thought… violent reactions are welcomed… The great thing about this is that undeniably… pinoy artist are at par with international artists and even better. They sing these classic songs… made it current and bam… a sure hit song is born.

Well to these two artists… congratulation for making the album and I’m sure it is will be a hit again.

My Cinderella Experience

17 08 2008

As soon as I heard the news that Lea Salonga is gong to do a play here in Manila, I started to get details how I can watch it! Of course as you have known it already, it’s the Rogers and Hammerstein’s version of Cinderella. I want to watch it not because of the story, dah… who on earth have never heard Cinderella’s story, but for the music and of course Lea. I’ve never nor heard her live so this play will be my standard if she is really good.

Before the date, I tried my efforts to watch this via Whitney’s version this Cinderella musical but the torrents I am trying to download are all the cartoon versions. So I decided to buy the CD. The music is fairly good. I like all of them especially “The music in you”. Just for the record… unless if you are sure that you will be able to see Lea and be able to sign your CDs, don’t buy the CDs at the CCP. It cost P100 higher than the regular record store. Here is the video about the making of the play:

I was a free rider in this event, I have some priest friends who have some connections and treated me to watch the play. Thanks to Fr. Eli and Fr Dennis for this wonderful treat. The date was Aug 10, 2008 at Parterre box 23. When I heard that I will be seating in the presidential areas of the CCP… I felt like Cinderella… wondering how it would be like to be with the elite people of the society. Luckily I didn’t dress like a metro junckie. Here is the floor plan of CCP and my location:

As soon as I step in the theater, I took some pictures but 5 mins before the play there is a warning that no picture taking before the play. Being in the presence of royalty made me behave just like them, no pictures during the play so what I just have is this picture below:

I only had the curtain taken in the play. Yah… Lucky me… The play started and it is exactly what I have expected… the play is really meant to entertain the kids. From the props to the magical effects and acting… it is really intended for kids. The great parts about this play are the song. If you heard the songs in the CD… it is exactly how you would hear it in the play. There is that scene where the raggedy-ane Cinderella with just suddenly became the beautifully dressed Cinderella. I never noticed that there was a switching of persons in this scene. The cast are mostly foreign and in fact I think Lea is the only Filipino. You know the story of Cinderella so I don’t have to tell you guys what the story is about… unless you came from another planet right.

After the play, this is the only time I have noticed that there are many people who watched the play and most of them are really kids or families. I am wondering why amidst the high cost of basic commodity, families still watch this classic story. Yah maybe its because Lea is performing or the production maybe but as I go deeper into the subject… I think all of us are dreaming of a Cinderella story to happen in our lives and we want to be reminded of it. It is just fitting to leave you guys with one of the songs in the play entitled “Impossible”. The song is about believing that impossible things can happen with a little bit of faith. Unfortunately Lea is unable to grace my blog but I invited Whitney and Brandy and offered their video of this song (yah right).
