The Battle of the Ultimate Philippine Diva is definitely ON

31 08 2008

Have you seen this poster…? Ang taray diba… Kung baga sa boxing… the Main Event…. Finally the showdown of these two Divas will come true. So far this poster is for the Pasadena, CA but I here rumors that this will also be also true once these two Divas come back from this US tour. They will be joined by Martin Nievera. To tell you honestly, I long for to sing with these two divas also (like I wish it will happen… heler).

Yah although they joined together in SOPs back to back to back episodes (just to mentioned that I missed this portion of SOP)… there is a big difference when we are talking about the “Big Dome”. These two Philippine divas are always compared with each other…now everyone has a chance to finally see who deserves the title “The Undisputed Philippine Diva”.

As soon as I heard of the news, I was immediately excited. I adore these two divas equally. Having an ultimate battle showdown concert is purely ingenious kinda like “Bituing Walang Ningning”… sana gawin nilang spoof yun sa concert. I can’t wait to see this once in a lifetime battle.

Who will you think will be Knocked Out? Only time will tell.

Movie Review: Quickie or Quick Trip

30 08 2008

At first I didn’t want to write this review but when I think of the other people who might watch this film… I felt obligated to give my review about this film.

I was one of the fortunate few who are able to watch the directors cut of Quickie or now Quick Trip. The call time was 7:30pm but due to technical difficulties, the film was played at almost 9:30pm. My friends and I at first felt the urge to just go away but we decided to stay since the director is very apologetic of how the things worked out with the premier. As what I know, a premier night should be nights where you flaunt your assets… all I got are just sweat and disappointment. It is bad enough that it started late… what made it made worst is when the organizers refuse to allow the movie goes to enter inside the theater. They can just simply collect the tickets then allow us inside. Our outfits are loosing its glamour you know… Any who… this most probably why many just refunded the tickets… not because it was shown late just to correct some articles.

Going back to the main point of posting this article, Quickie is not for me a good film … why… simply because the plot was so silly. A poor gay waiter falls in love with a gay call center agent then get this… the poor waiter is the one who treats this gay call center agent with their dates etc. This film is poorly researched because didn’t they know that call center agents earn enormously? I just simply can’t comprehend why injecting a poor gay waiter desperately seeking this call center agents love by buying him off. The story got interesting when Andro Morgan came along seeking for quickies… “kasi trip lang”. Things got out of hand and ended up being with the call center agent again.

For me the movie might be better if the call center agent should be the main character and be in the situation of unbearable hardship with the family, finances and love life. The call center agent should be the one seeking for quickie and not the waiter. A good film should have a good story or everything will collapse.

For the technical parts, the usual Cris Pablo text inserts are present again which for me is totally unnecessary. This spoils the moment and kinda annoying. There are a lot of scenes that are too long like the text conversations and the endless research of finding the place to do “it”.

The performances of the actors are very amateurish though I have to give credit the following characters… the call center agent, the mother of the Toffer. I think they alone stand out among the others.

Overall, the film is just like a school project rather than an Indie film. I have nothing against the maker of this film in fact I like Pantasya. I just simply don’t like this film.

Well I don’t know if the sex scenes of Toffer Baretto and Andro Morgan will be shown in the regular cinema but I guess that scene alone paid off maybe the frustrations I had with this film. Well I’m sure the ending part of that sex scene will be deleted… trust me it will be deleted for obvious reasons… really obvious reasons.

I guess my ending notes for this film is that if that sex scene is deleted… it is totally not worth seeing it in the big screen. That’s all.

I gave this film 1 out of 5 Jupiter Star power for simply hitting the right theme to a particular target audience.

American Idol News Flash: Archie is back and the 4th Judge revealed…

30 08 2008

Just when you taught Archie is soon gone… he is back and I hope he would not be crushing (I have a feeling he won’t) with his latest single “Crush”

Again coming for site:

According to Billboard Magazine, David Archuleta’s new single, “Crush” (19/Jive), debuts at No. 2, thus becoming the highest new entry of 2008 and the highest debut ever for an “American Idol” song not performed on the series.

“Crush,” which debuts at No. 1 on Hot Digital Songs, is the fourth entry for Archuleta on the Hot 100.  His first three all debuted the week of June 7 and spent one week each on the tally:  His version of John Lennon’s “Imagine” at No. 36, Elton John’s “Don’t Let the Sun Go Down on Me” at No. 58 and “In This Moment” at No. 60.  “Crush” is the seventh single to debut inside the top 10 of the Hot 100 in 2008.

And here is a summary of songs recorded by “American Finalists” but not performed during the course of competition that have debuted in the top 10:

No. 2: “Crush,” David Archuleta (Aug. 30, 2008)

No. 6: “I’ll Stand By You,” Carrie Underwood (May 12, 2007)

No. 8: “Never Again,” Kelly Clarkson (May 12, 2007)

Here is the Music Video of David Archuleta’s Crush:

I was just browsing in the web and look at the American idol updates and a big news is declared… there is a 4th judge in the coming season of American Idol… she is Grammy-Nominated songwriter Kara DioGuardi. As posted by Miles in the site of her achievements:

“One of the industry’s most sought after songwriters and producers, DioGuardi’s songs have appeared on more than 100 million records.  Her songs have been recorded by Grammy award-winning artists including Kelly Clarkson, Christina Aguilera, Gwen Stefani, Celine Dion, Faith Hill, Carrie Underwood, Santana and Pink.  Scores of major recording artists including Britney Spears, Avril Lavigne, Pussycat Dolls, Miley Cyrus, The Jonas Brothers, Natasha Bedingfield, Jewel, Ashley Tisdale, Katharine McPhee, Taylor Hicks, Bo Bice, Clay Aiken, Ashlee Simpson, Hilary Duff, Jessica Simpson, Kylie Minogue, Enrique Iglesias, Nick Lachey and Marc Anthony have also released DioGuardi’s songs.

Over the last four years, she has been awarded 10 BMI Pop Awards for having written the most performed songs on radio.  From her catalog of several hundred songs, over 264 have been released on major labels worldwide; and over 165 have appeared on multi-platinum selling albums.  DioGuardi co-owns Arthous Entertainment, where she develops and mentors fellow hit writers, producers and artists.”

Add up with the crazy trio Paula, Randy and Simon… you can expect a much tougher AI8 auditions… Is Paula feeling threaten of the added girl power into the table? Will there be a girl to girl fighting now… just kidding… I love AI and I hope more artists are discovered and given a chance.

The premier season of AI8 will be on January 2009. Now the countdown continues…

Soul in Love Meets Dianne Warren Hits

17 08 2008

My attendance in this event is purely unintentional. I was on my way home after watching Cinderella. I decided to ride the MTR and passed by SM Makati. It was 7:30pm then and I saw the last leg of people signing for the Latest album of Jar-R’s latest album “Soul in Love”. I am not really a Jay-R fan but the selections in the CD are familiar to me and I am wondering how he sang these songs. So what the heck… I bought the CD and I got a free poster. Well it looked like there are a lot of fans for this artist since the show started at 5pm and until 8pm there are still people lined up to get autographs and pictures taken. Unfortunately I was one of them….

At first I though he is a snob since prior to this event, I was able to see him in Odyssey Music store at the Gateway. I was going out of the store when I bump into him. I wasn’t my fault since he is on my way out of the said establishment and he is talking to someone else in his cell. He immediately ran and maybe he is looking for someone. I also noticed some fans that were going to attempt to have his pictures taken hear DQ but because of the whole running incident… those fans were not successful. Now here I am again and meeting him one more time… this time in a more cheerful disposition.

Of course there are the usual congratulations… yada yada yada… and asked for my name… I said japok… but he spelled jopok… He said “unique name”… I said… “yah”…  I gave the CD and the poster and have my picture taken. Here is the result. After that picture was taken, he looked at it and said that “eksakto ha, galing mo kumuha ha”. I replied… “Thanks”. I then left him with a sincere congratulations and high hopes having more sales on his album. Here are some of my pics:

My view before I get up to meet JayR

Jupiterboi and JayR

I listen to the album when I arrived home and it is not bad at all. I immediately transfer the songs in my IPOD and these songs have been playing all week while I was going to work or going back home. There are 18 track of pure soulful and purely good listening music. His track of Tattooed on my Mind with D’sound is simply indescribable. I suggest buying your own copy and listen to it. Promise you won’t regret it. Here are the tracks of his album:

1. One Hundred Ways
2. Just To See Her
3. You Make Me Feel Brand New
4. Love Won’t Make Me Wait
5. Always And Forever
6. After The Love Has Gone
7. No One Else Comes Close
8. Time Will Reveal
9. She’s Out Of My Life
10. Two Occasions
11. Sweet Love
12. What You Won’t Do For Love
13. What’s Going On
14. Ain’t No Sunshine
15. Neither One Of Us
16. Tender Love
17. You Are My Lady
18. Tattooed On My Mind (With D’Sound)

Here is the video of Jay-R and D’Sound for Tattooed on my Mind:

Another album you should be buying is the new album from Nina where she sings the hits of Dianne Warren. The tracks are too familiar that I can’t simply ignore it plus the album is a double CD (talk about value for your purchase). Here is the cover picture.

Nina’s version of these familiar hits simply transcended into a wonderful collection of songs we all came to love. Her renditions give a new sound to hits like because you love me, I turn to you, how do I live, unbreak my heart and many more… plus you can also sing ala Nina by playing the disk 2 where all of the songs are in minus one. Here are the tracks to here anticipated album:

1. I Don’t Want To Miss A Thing

2. I Turn To You

3. Love Will Lead You Back

4. Because You Loved Me

5. Have You Ever

6. Un-Break My Heart

7. There You’ll Be

8. I’ll Never Get Over You (Getting Over Me)

9. Blue Eyes Blue

10. How Can We Be Lovers?

11. When I See You Smile

12. Saving Forever For You

13. How Do I Live

14. I Could Not Ask For More

15. I Don’t Want To Be Your Friend

Here is her album launch in ASAP:

All in all I’m lucky to have listened or meet with these artists since they remind me of what are great and sad things about Filipino talents. The sad part is that while pinoy bands are the in thing… single artist are struggling to have great hits that they resort to just reviving familiar songs. Not that I’m totally against it but can’t they sing new songs that would call their own?  Well this is just a thought… violent reactions are welcomed… The great thing about this is that undeniably… pinoy artist are at par with international artists and even better. They sing these classic songs… made it current and bam… a sure hit song is born.

Well to these two artists… congratulation for making the album and I’m sure it is will be a hit again.

My Cinderella Experience

17 08 2008

As soon as I heard the news that Lea Salonga is gong to do a play here in Manila, I started to get details how I can watch it! Of course as you have known it already, it’s the Rogers and Hammerstein’s version of Cinderella. I want to watch it not because of the story, dah… who on earth have never heard Cinderella’s story, but for the music and of course Lea. I’ve never nor heard her live so this play will be my standard if she is really good.

Before the date, I tried my efforts to watch this via Whitney’s version this Cinderella musical but the torrents I am trying to download are all the cartoon versions. So I decided to buy the CD. The music is fairly good. I like all of them especially “The music in you”. Just for the record… unless if you are sure that you will be able to see Lea and be able to sign your CDs, don’t buy the CDs at the CCP. It cost P100 higher than the regular record store. Here is the video about the making of the play:

I was a free rider in this event, I have some priest friends who have some connections and treated me to watch the play. Thanks to Fr. Eli and Fr Dennis for this wonderful treat. The date was Aug 10, 2008 at Parterre box 23. When I heard that I will be seating in the presidential areas of the CCP… I felt like Cinderella… wondering how it would be like to be with the elite people of the society. Luckily I didn’t dress like a metro junckie. Here is the floor plan of CCP and my location:

As soon as I step in the theater, I took some pictures but 5 mins before the play there is a warning that no picture taking before the play. Being in the presence of royalty made me behave just like them, no pictures during the play so what I just have is this picture below:

I only had the curtain taken in the play. Yah… Lucky me… The play started and it is exactly what I have expected… the play is really meant to entertain the kids. From the props to the magical effects and acting… it is really intended for kids. The great parts about this play are the song. If you heard the songs in the CD… it is exactly how you would hear it in the play. There is that scene where the raggedy-ane Cinderella with just suddenly became the beautifully dressed Cinderella. I never noticed that there was a switching of persons in this scene. The cast are mostly foreign and in fact I think Lea is the only Filipino. You know the story of Cinderella so I don’t have to tell you guys what the story is about… unless you came from another planet right.

After the play, this is the only time I have noticed that there are many people who watched the play and most of them are really kids or families. I am wondering why amidst the high cost of basic commodity, families still watch this classic story. Yah maybe its because Lea is performing or the production maybe but as I go deeper into the subject… I think all of us are dreaming of a Cinderella story to happen in our lives and we want to be reminded of it. It is just fitting to leave you guys with one of the songs in the play entitled “Impossible”. The song is about believing that impossible things can happen with a little bit of faith. Unfortunately Lea is unable to grace my blog but I invited Whitney and Brandy and offered their video of this song (yah right).

Torotot (Destierro)

movie synopsis: (from

Torotot explores the story of two couples, why and how their marriages crumble and how their infidelity and passions have brought them tragic endings.

Leo, a very straight yet very vain art director of ad agency loves his wife Marie (a veterinarian) so much that’s why he’s so upset that she’s too preoccupied with her pets. She spends more time with her dogs than attending to his needs. This neglect causes Leo to have a brief affair with his AE. He gets the girl pregnant but had the baby aborted.

Too bad, Marie learns about the affair and even confronts the girl only a few days the couple resolves to work on their rocky relationship again. Devastated, Marie meets up with her dog trainer and out of anger and sudden burst of passion, the two had an erotic tryst right on top of the vet’s table. Leo barges in and caught them in the act. Leo grabs a scalpel and slits their throats.

Rita and Gabby share different opinion regarding the tragic incident. Rita, Gabby’s wife happens to be Marie’s best friend and she knows about Leo’s hanky panky. Marie never kept secrets from her. While Gabby, the arrogant husband defends best pal, Leo because he also knew how Leo practically begs for Marie’s attention, more so to have sex with him.

Amidst all these, Gabby and Rita unknowingly share the same marital problem. While Gabby is sexually active in bed, he also suffers pre-mature ejaculation. He only cares for his satisfaction. Rita on the other hand, the very subservient, bored wife is in a continuous denial that their relationship is still okay. This is until she meets the very aggressive Gaston (the married meat vendor) and awakens her appetite for lust and forbidden passion.

Will Gabby also end up killing his wife just like his best friend Leo?

It will premiere at the UP Film Institute on August 9, 2008, Saturday at 7:30PM. By the way this is already the second playdate of the director’s cut for this film. The first play date was held last week at the Greenbelt 3. Torotot casts earned an invitation to this year’s 35th Brussels International Independent Film Festival (BIIFF) from November 4 to 9.

The Thank You Girls

The Thank You Girls will have its premiere night on August 28, 2008, Thursday at the UP Film Institute, 6:30 PM. Here is its official poster:

From the director’s blog:

It is a Visayan film with a gay lingo twist. Tired of losing in all the beauty competitions in Davao City, five dysfunctional gay beauty pageant veterans decide to travel north to Cagayan de Oro City, in the island of Mindanao, with a mission to conquer the grandest competition of beauty, personality and brains in the province. They believe that being city dwellers, gays in the province will never stand a chance against them.

And who says gay films are just sex films after all?

Jupiterboi says: I totally agree… it is about time to see a fun and enjoyable gay film for once… It started with “Kambyo” and thanks for “The Thank You Girls”… I think gay themed film will have a different perspective in the future.

I’ll leave you guys with the Teaser Trailer of The Thank You Girls:

I will try to watch these movies and hopefully we can support these films in theaters. I will keep you posted of the reviews for these films.

Movie Review: Bangkok Love Story

4 08 2008

I’ve never been in Bangkok, Thailand but after seeing this film… it makes me think otherwise.

Bangkok love story is about a forbidden love between an apparent victim and his offender. Mek is a notorious hitman in Bangkok who is always hired for dangerous types of cases but he only kills bad guys. He had to do this because he wanted to raise his family from poverty. When I is hired to kidnap IT, he discovered that he is one of the good guys and refused to kill him. This started with the feud between Mek and his notorious gang and tried to escape with IT.  Unfortunately Mek was shot refused to be assisted by anyone. Out of gratitude, IT stayed and helped Mek recover. While cooling off, they form an oddly bond that soon turned into a forbidden love. IT was married a wonderful attractive lady but soon realized he is living in a lie. Mek being the bread winner refuse to accept this and avoided IT. With a bad combination of Love and Crime… will this two unlikely lovers end up being together?

Technical aspects of the film are superb… cinematography and shots were tastefully done…acting of the two central characters are good. Background sounds and songs are very entertaining and add value to the scenes. My comment is the about title “Bangkok Love Story”… why this title? Are all Bangkok love stories like this? Don’t get me wrong but I don’t think this is true. Just because Bangkok is the leading country for sex change operation permits that same sex is THE love story that we expect in Bangkok. The story is quite impressive but my main concern is that there were to much issue tackled in the movie that kinda diverts the central plot of the film like Mek’s brother (who may I say is more attractive of all) has an AIDS, rapped by his father and works as a male prostitute.

Here are some of the scenes in the film:

Here is a scene where IT attempts to kill himself just to be at peace with the crazy love he got into with Mek

Here is the scene where IT and Mek cruising in the city with a motorcycle

Here is a steamy hot kissing scene between Mek and IT after confronting their feelings… the only way to release it is to act on it. BTW this was done raining outside the city streets and ended up like the scene below.

Here is Mek’s brother… simply lonely and vulnerable with all the things happening in his life

Overall the movie is entertaining and somewhat a fresh breather from the typical gay movies I see in Philippine movies now a days. If you haven’t watched it, I strongly recommend it.

I give Bangkok Love Story 4 out of 5 Jupiter Star Power
